Michigan Legislature Approves Spending Plan with Funding for the Mobility Future Initiative

March 25, 2022

On Thursday, the Michigan Legislature approved a $4.8 billion spending plan with overwhelming bipartisan support. Along with provisions for roads, bridges, safe drinking water, and rental assistance, the package includes $25 million for the Mobility Future Initiative. Under this spending plan, the Office of Future Mobility and Electrification will be required to coordinate investments in clean mobility in the following categories:

  • $15 million for transitioning and growing the state’s mobility workforce and industry
  • $7 million for safer, greener, and more accessible mobility services
  • $3 million to develop and commercialize mobility technologies through a new network of mobility innovation hubs

Clean Fuels Michigan celebrates this significant investment in Michigan’s clean transportation industry as it will provide cleaner air and water, create jobs, and continue our legacy as the home of automotive innovation.

Last fall, the MI Clean Future Coalition put together a series of recommendations for state investment, including the Mobility Future Initiative. We will continue to advocate for additional investments to ensure that Michigan does not miss this opportunity to invest in clean mobility solutions that signal industry leadership, prioritize equity, and ensure maximum efficiency of federal Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA) funding.
